It seems difficult to understand and classify the photography as a form of art. The debate of the nature of photography as art is going on for years. The photographs are considered to have a unique nature as they are the exact copy of what is seen through the eyes. They produce the subject in the photograph in the same form of the visuals that are actually seen by the viewer. Thus, they are an imitation. As per the definition of art it is the imitation of what is real and actual. Thus, in this respect it really becomes easy to call photography as art. No other field like painting or sculpture even can be as realistic as is the photography.
The art becomes an interesting field of thought with great deal of baseness in the subjects. It cannot be confined to the particular theme or subject. The ultimate appearance of the product is something that helps in predicting the quality of the work. Once the work is materialized the viewer is able to appreciate it, accept it or reject it depending on the reaction that is created. The artist just captures the moment through his perception, while it lies with the viewer to interpret it in the most perceived manner. Thus, the skill level of an artist is determined by the way he can portray the things he has seen and observed and then exhibited them in the way he likes.
When it comes to discussing the quality of the photography as a manifestation of art, many experts at photography criticize it. The photographer observes the things that are physically exiting around him. They keep a close eye on them, and then try to bring them as a print on the film. Thus, the critics are of the view that this cannot be considered as having the essentials of arts. Still there are some who believe in photography as a real art form. They bring out the characteristics in the photography that make it fall in the category of arts.
Photography is not considered as art by most of the photography critics as they believe that the originality cannot be maintained. It is easy to create the copies of the same image unlike painting in which the piece created once cannot be recreated with the same spirit and thought. The latest cameras have made it really easy to capture the photographs without significant effort. It does not require for a particular training or practice to develop the artistic trends. The process has really become convenient and the photographs can be captured with the help of the ordinary mobiles. The photographs are captured, and exchanged very easily through various sources.
These characteristics make it absolutely clear that it is difficult to categorize the photography as art. Although there are number of elements that qualify it for the artistic qualities but on the contrary a number of factors are there that compels a critic to not qualify photography as art.
